10 July 2023

On 03 July 2023, Prof Rosana Pinheiro-Machado travelled to Brasilia to launch the Ministry of Human Rights’ report “Recommendations to Tackle Hate Speech and Extremism in Brazil,” which she co-authored with several other Brazilian scholars specialised in far-right studies.

The working group was created by Minister Silvio Almeida and coordinated by former congresswoman Manuela Davila and Dr Camilo Onoda. The report is a pioneering official document that aims to promote a series of educational policy recommendations to foster a democratic culture in Brazil.

On the occasion, Prof Pinheiro-Machado had several meetings with the government authorities, visiting the Office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. She also presented the Digital Economy and Extreme Politics Lab to President Lula’s special advisor, Dr Adriana Addenur, and Mr Frederico Assis. Prof Pinheiro-Machado reaffirmed the Lab’s commitment to foster democratic policies in the Global South.
