DeepLab at LASA 2026: Showcasing Research on Digital Labour and Politics

Organised by the Latin American Studies Association (LASA), LASA is the world’s largest and most significant congress dedicated to Latin American studies, bringing together thousands of scholars, researchers, and practitioners from across the globe.

This year’s congress continues LASA’s long-standing commitment to fostering dialogue and collaboration across regions, including through its “Asia and the Americas” initiatives, which explore connections between Latin America and Asia through discussions on politics, labour, trade, culture, and digital transformation.

We are incredibly proud that so many members of the DeepLab team will be presenting papers and participating in panels throughout the week. Their presentations showcase findings emerging from the first three years of DeepLab’s empirical research, with themes ranging from digital labour and platform politics to the far right, entrepreneurship, and social transformation in Latin America.

DeepLab researchers participating in LASA 2026 include Rosana Pinheiro-Machado, Jessica M. Souza, Marina Frid, Miguel Paolo Rivera, Rashmi Guha Ray, Wagner Guilherme Alves da Silva, and Ianaira B. Neves.

The DeepLab team will also have the opportunity to reconnect with members of our advisory board attending the conference, including Debora Diniz, who will receive the prestigious LASA/Oxfam America Martin Diskin Memorial Lectureship Award, alongside Tatiana Vargas Maia and Rafael Grohmann, both of whom will also be chairing and presenting on panels during the congress. The team will also have an opportunity to exchange with research colleagues Gabriel Feltran and Deborah Fromm in panels and roundtables.

Enhancing DeepLab’s presence, our current visiting researchers, Telma Bemerguy and Anelize dos Santos Ribeiro, will also be attending LASA 2026.
