This Autumn term, Deeplab had the privilege of hosting two Visiting PhD Students, Vitáli Marques from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS, Brazil) and Ianaiara Barretto Neves from the Getúlio Vargas Foundation (FGV/SP, Brazil), who joined us for a part of their PhD journeys to exchange knowledge and share ideas. Neves’ doctoral research, which is nearing completion, addresses resistance among platform workers in Brazil.
On 17 October, Neves treated us to a captivating lecture on her ongoing research. Her presentation enlightened us on the diverse spaces and sites of resistance against algorithmic control among self-employed workers. Marques used his time in Dublin to delve deeper into his doctoral research, which focuses on the construction of the political justification for the impeachment of the former President of Brazil, Dilma Rousseff.
The Deeplab team greatly benefited from the contributions of these two early career researchers, and we hope that this collaboration is the beginning of a long road of interdisciplinary dialogue and knowledge exchange facilitated by our lab directors and advisors.
